Qualified Aged Care Workers Seek Jobs

Employers seeking aged care workers are being urged to contact ETC following the recent graduation of six local people in an 11-month, intensive aged care course.

ETC's National Training Solutions Manager, Paul McAra said the Certificate III in Aged Care Work course covered the fundamentals for providing professional aged care as well as valuable hands-on practical experience.

"As part of the course, each participant spent at least 100 hours in a local aged care facility to apply the knowledge they had gained and learn from real-life experiences," Mr McAra said.

"A big thank you to our local aged care providers who accommodated the students, in particular Coffs Nursing Centre, Woolgoolga Aged Care, Masonic Aged Care and Bellorama Nursing Home."

"Participants were also able to access the newly created Coastal Carers Learning Centre which has been built at ETC thanks to funding from the Department of Education and Training through Industry Skills Centre funding."

"The centre contains modern lifters and manual handling devices allowing the students to gain practical competencies prior to entering aged care facilities."

The course covered units such as providing personal care, cultural diversity, dementia training and manual handling training.

"Already two of our graduates have been snapped up and the others are eagerly seeking entry level positions in the aged care industry," Mr McAra said
