A group of managers from different businesses in Coffs Harbour are elated after graduating from ETC's Diploma of Management course this week, which for some represented a two year commitment.
For real estate veteran Lisa Hanlan buying into the First National Real Estate business two and a half years ago prompted her to consider gaining a management qualification. "At the time I thought a tertiary qualification was my only option," Ms Hanlan said. "I found the practical nature of the Diploma of Management invaluable. While completing the units I was able to implement what I was learning directly into the day to day management of my business. "It's the best thing I've done in my working life to help my business." For many people, such as Glenn Norris and Lianne De Paoli, undertaking a Diploma of Management provided an opportunity to validate the skills they already had. "I was already working as a manager. I had the skills but no qualification to back it up. I'm much more confident now that what I'm doing is the right way," Mr Norris said. Todd Weeks has worked his way up to a management position at Bonville Golf Resort over the course of 18 years and he said the flexibility of a Diploma of Management and the opportunity to do it at your own pace was what prompted him to sign up. "This course has broadened my knowledge of the day to day management of staff and running a successful small business," Mr Weeks said. Todd and his colleague Matt Dagger decided to do the course over two years to fit in with their busy and personal life schedules. "I've taken something from each module in the Diploma and implemented it into my business along the way. For example, after learning about writing policies I developed a policy to detect damage in our golf carts and that's now been implemented," Mr Dagger said. Real estate agent Kim McKinnon is a focussed 30 year-old who completed the course in less than six months and saw the Diploma as an important stepping stone towards starting her own business. "From the day we received the flyer, I was not disappointed with the service given by ETC. Michelle Rojo (trainer) was very informative, very punctual and reliable. I thoroughly enjoyed completing the course, knowing full support was behind me, "Ms McKinnon said For further information, or to enrol in ETC's Diploma of Management, contact Ingrid Hughes on 0408 893 665. |
