Traffic Controller (Blue Card)

WorkCover stipulates that any person working on road works controlling traffic must be a holder of a Traffic Controller's Certificate. This is an RTA accredited course which may interest labourer plant operators, truck drivers, sporting, market or event staff.

PREREQUISITES:

OHS INDUCTION TRAINING FOR CONSTRUCTION WORK IN NSW

1. Green Card - Evidence must be brought on the day
2. See below for Driver's Licence requirements

As of the1st November 2006, all persons seeking to be trained in the RTA Traffic Control using a Stop/ Slow Bat are required to hold, or to have previously held, a minimum of a Provisional "P2" Driver's Licence ( Green P's).

Any potential applicant for training is suitable, provided that they possess:
1. A NSW P2 driver's licence
2. A NSW unrestricted driver's licence that has class "R1" (rider) only.
3. A licence from another Australian State or Territory that is the equivalent or better than the above points 1 and 2.

Persons who do not hold a current licence, but have held one in the past, need to provide proof to the Trainer before undergoing the training.

Acceptable proof includes an old licence or a print-out of your driving record. Contact your local RTA Motor Registry for further information on obtaining your driving record.

Persons who have completed the RTA Traffic Control using a Stop/Slow Bat prior to November 1 2006 are permanently exempt from this driver licence requirement provided they re-do their training prior to the expiry date on their current ticket.

The current Traffic Control ticket must be provided as evidence, to the Trainer when attending a STOP/SLOW Traffic Control course.

Course Content:
A structured 'off the job' 6 hour training session which covers the following topics:

  • Duties of a Traffic Controller
  • Dress Requirements
  • Procedures
  • Escape Routes
  • Authority
  • Hand Signals
  • Locations and Stopping Distances
  • Effective Communication
  • Standard Equipment

An assessment which ensures that the trainee has acquired the necessary knowledge and skills.


Learning Outcomes:
On successful completion of this participants will be able to:

  • Apply the procedures of traffic controlling within a worksite
  • Promote the role of a traffic controller in the community
  • Understand the role of a Traffic Controller
  • Operate a 2-way radio correctly and effectively

Duration: 1 day; 9:00am - 5:00pm
