Workforce Australia’s Transition to Work (TtW) supports young people aged 15-24 to stay on track with study or training, work toward completing a course, or get started when the time is right — in a way that feels realistic and achievable.

Who this page is for

This page is for you if you’re:

  • Already studying or training and want help to stay on track or finish your course
  • Part of TtW and thinking about study, but not sure where to start
  • Interested in Certificate III or short-course options
  • Looking for a pathway that’s not like school
  • Needing help with practical things that can make study harder

You don’t need to have everything worked out – support is available at different stages.

If you’re already studying

Support to help you finish school

If you’re currently enrolled in study or training, Transition to Work can support you to stay engaged and keep moving toward completion.

Support may include:

  • One-to-one check-ins with your ETC Youth Advisor
  • Help planning assessments or managing study workload
  • Weekly study support groups to help you focus, ask questions, or stay motivated
  • Encouragement as you work through your course and approach completion

The focus is on progress, persistence, and helping you finish what you’ve started, at a pace that works for you.

If you’re not yet studying

A different way to learn – not like school

If you’re thinking about study or training, learning through TtW is designed to feel different from traditional school.

It’s:

  • Flexible and practical
  • Focused on real-world outcomes
  • Built around your goals and readiness

There are a range of study and training pathways available, including:

  • Certificate III courses
  • Shorter training options that can often be completed in a shorter timeframe

You don’t have to rush – options are explored based on what feels right for you.

What studying can lead to

Study isn’t just about getting a qualification, it’s about creating more options for your future.

With the right support, study or training can help you:

  • Build confidence by achieving something you may not have thought possible
  • Develop skills employers look for, like communication, teamwork and reliability
  • Open doors to job opportunities that require training or entry-level qualifications
  • Create pathways into apprenticeships, further training or long-term careers
  • Prove to yourself that you can stick with something and finish it

Even completing part of a course can help build momentum and show employers your commitment.

Through Transition to Work, study is about progress. It’s about taking steps that move you closer to work, independence and a future that feels realistic and achievable.
