Why Work 1
A 16 year old TtW participant first joined us while he was living in a boarding house with little support. His assigned Youth Advisor working intensively with him to improve his communication skills, resume, and interview skills. When our Business Advisor met the participant he instantly took a liking to this young person and began marketing him to employers. An employer decided to give him a chance on a Paid Work Trial. Our participant having had multiple interviews and gaining skills through the paid work trial, proved himself and was successful in securing a full time position! This has completely changed his world, his confidence has grown significantly and he can’t thank the TtW team enough for the support he has been given on his journey.
Work Experience Leads to Full Time Position
My main problem was I couldn’t make a decision. TtW helped me make a decision and secure a paid work trial at the QT hotel with its Head Chef. My family is so proud of me, I know I don’t have a permanent job yet – but I have 4 weeks paid work experience and I know if I do the right thing and stay positive there is an opportunity for me to be offered an apprenticeship. It feels so good to see my Mum proud. I use to spend 11 hours gaming and rush around and do chores before my Mum got home, but now the others will have to do them because I will be at work!

On Track Workshop
I had no idea that some cover letters are scanned for key words and that sometimes a person never reads my entire cover letter or application. I used to feel so judged and rejected, after not hearing back about all the jobs I apply for. Now I know the trick to writing a great cover letter and all I need to put in it to get through to an interview. I don’t get as upset anymore if I miss out on an interview, I just try harder next time.

Visualise Workshop
The workshops are the highlight of my week. They have helped build my confidence and I’ve been getting interviews for the jobs I apply for with the help of ETC doing up my resume and cover letter. I now know how to change it myself and feel confident looking for work

I really enjoyed Discovery Day, we went to the Billabong Factory Outlet and took a tour through the shop. The people there gave me a lot of information and I now know I would love to work in retail, or do Visual Merchandising.
